Compliance Guidelines
E-Waste Management Rules in India
Ministry had notified the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 on 2nd November, 2022. These rules has replaced E-waste (Management) Rules, 2016 and is effective from 1st April, 2023. These rules has launch a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regime for e-waste recycling.
All manufacturers, producers, refurbishers, and recyclers must register on the CPCB portal and cannot operate or engage with unregistered entities. Authorization is now replaced by online registration. The EPR regime now includes 106 EEE, with annual recycling targets based on previous sales. Solar PV modules/panels/cells are included in the new rules. Recycled quantities will be verified by end products to prevent false claims. EPR Certificate transactions, environmental compensation, verification, audits, and a Steering Committee for rule implementation are introduced. EEE producers must limit hazardous substances like lead and mercury in their products.
